A 'drug addict' man allegedly killed his 5-year-old son at Mahadevpur village in Phulpur upazila on Saturday morning. Police said, victim Abu Bakar Siddique had been living with his father Robiqul Islam as the boy's mother works at a garment factory in the capital city, Dhaka. They said, Rezia Khatun, grandmother of Abu Bakar had been bringing him up as Robiqul, being a drug addict, hardly worked to maintain his family. Abu Bakar used to go to the field with his father to cut grass or to graze cattle. On the fateful day, Robiqul went to a nearby field to cut grass at around 10:00 am in the morning and Abu Bakar as usual accompanied his father, said police. When Robiqul returned home at around 11:30 am, his parents asked him about Abu Bakar. But Robiqul left the house without giving any reply. As Abu Bakar did not return home even after several hours, local people started searching for him and found the slain body of the boy at a paddy field, said S Alam, officer in-charge (OC) of Phulpur police station. Quoting family members and locals, police said, Robiqul is also mentally deranged. However, police could not find out any specific reason for the murder. Police recovered the body and sent it to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) morgue for autopsy.
