Housewife commits 'suicide,' another murdered
A housewife allegedly committed suicide while another was murdered on Thursday and the day before.
A housewife allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of her house at Atharobag in Chouddagram upazila of Comilla on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Kohinur Akter, wife of Monir Hossain and daughter of Abdul Bari of Koiaddari village in the upazila, reports UNB.
Police said Monir Hossain married Kohinur Akter five years back. Later, Monir developed an extra-marital relationship with another woman.
When Kohinur came to know the matter she tried to resist him but failed.
Being frustrated, Kohinur killed herself hanging from the ceiling of her house.
In Kushtia, a woman was strangled allegedly by husband after a family feud at Dighalkandi village in Daulatpur upazila on Friday night, reports our correspondent.
The dead was identified as Marzina Khatun, 35, wife of Hossain Ali.
Police quoting the family said, Hossain strangled Marzina, mother of two children, after an altercation at his house at midnight and fled early in the morning.
Police from Daulatpur police station recovered the body and sent it to Kushtia general hospital for autopsy.
Acid attack
In Chapainawabganj, a woman received burn injuries early Thursday allegedly as a group of neighbours threw acid on her at Mokimpur village in Shibgonj upazila, reports our correspondent.
The victim was identified as Shahanara Khatun, 32, wife of Shafiqul Islam of the village under Chak Kirti union.
Abdus Salam, officer in-charge (OC) of Shibgonj police station said, Abul Kalam, Gumani, Erfan Ali, Moinul, Pintu Ali, Rintu Ali, Noorjahan, Rabeya and Chand Mia threw acid on her at about 2:00am. She received burn injuries in her forehead and face.
He said, earlier Shahanara filed a case against some of her neighbours with Shibgonj police station following a feud over a piece of land.
Police went to Mokimpur village to arrest Shahanara's neighbours at midnight. But sensing presence of the law enforcers, they fled from the area.
When police left the area, Abul Kalam, Gumani, Erfan Ali, Moinul, Pintu Ali, Rintu Ali, Noorjahan, Rabeya and Chand Mia went to the house of Shahanara and locked in a quarrel.
At on stage, they threw acid on her.
Shahanara is now being treated at Shibgonj health complex.
