A teenage boy was crushed under the wheels of a running train as he fell on the railway tracks while trying to get on the roof of the train yesterday. The incident took place in Parbatipur upazila of the district, Railwaymen said. Victim Nadim Hossain, 16, was son of Bakul Hossain of Ibrahimnagar in the upazila. Abdul Karim, station master of Parbatipur railway station, said Nadim fell on the rail line while climbing to the roof of Kanchon Express around 7:30am. He was instantly run over by the Dinajpur bound train from Parbatipur, he added. Meanwhile, an engine of Titumir Express, a Chilahati bound inter-city train from Rajshahi caught fire near Birampur railway station, creating panic among the passengers. Mizanur Rahman, loco master (driver) of the train, said he was driving towards Chilahati, but soon after the train left Birampur station at around 12:25pm yesterday, suddenly it caught fire with a huge flame. Later, the fire was doused with the help of fire extinguishing equipment kept inside the engine. The driver claimed that the fire broke out because of technical glitches of the aging engine. Later, another engine was sent to Birampur and it left for its destination three hours after the scheduled time.
