10 brick kilns fined for violating rules

Ten brick fields, several shops and restaurants were fined in Magura and Thakurgaon districts for violating rules and failing to maintain quality, yesterday and the day before. A government market monitoring team yesterday raided different shops and restaurants in Thakurgaon town and took action for not maintaining standard, reports our correspondent. The team realised Tk.75,000 from different business establishments including shops, bakery and restaurant for selling adulterated foods, date expired food items and goods and unhygienic atmosphere. Of the total, Tk. 30,000 was fined to Bikrampur Store, Tk. 5,000 to Suruchi Hotel and Restaurant at Thakurgaon intersection, Tk.10,000 realised from Hashem Traders and Shakil Store, Tk. 8,000 from Gani Store, Tk.12,000 from Omar Bakery at Kalibari Bazar in the town. Earlier on Wednesday, the same team fined six other business establishments including grocery shops, restaurants and medicine shops in Panchagarh district headquarters and realised Tk. 65,000 fine. A mobile court in Sadar upazila of Magura on Wednesday realised Tk 1.50 lakh fine from 10 brick fields for violating government rules in burning bricks, reports UNB. Sources said, the mobile court led upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) and executive magistrate Taiyebur Rahman and aided by Rab, police, fire service members and forest and environment department officials, conducted drives in the brick kilns and realised the fine for illegally using firewood in burning bricks instead of coal. The court also demolished a brick kiln for manufacturing bricks without licence. Meanwhile, a market monitoring team in separate drives in the district town realised Tk 70,000 fine from 12 shops on charges of selling date expired and low quality food stuffs and medicine the same day.
