Failed candidates stage protest, demand cancellation of test
Candidates who recently participated in an examination for appointment in the health department, have demanded removal of three officials, including the Civil Surgeon and cancellation of the test.
More than 100 examinees held a rally and brought out a procession to press for their demand in Gopalganj Sadar Hospital area yesterday noon.
Civil Surgeon office sources said examination for appointment to different posts was held on November 11 and the results were published on November 14.
The sources said, on November 14 the candidates who failed the examinations organised a protest demanding cancellation of the results. They participated in agitation for the second day yesterday.
Former vice president of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) district unit Moududur Rahman Kajal, former general secretary of Government Bangabandhu University College and BCL leader Abdullah Al Mamun and BCL town unit joint convenor Sohel Sikder spoke at the rally after the protest procession.
The speakers demanded removal of Civil Surgeon Dr Md Mustafizur Rahman Miah, statistician Dilip Bhadra and Upper Division (UD) Assistant Zahur Mridha.
Some candidates who participated in the agitation programme said they could not pass the test as money played a role in the selection process. They also brought allegations of nepotism against the three health department officials.
The Civil Surgeon, however, said that the examinations were taken in a fair way. Refuting the allegations made by some BCL leaders he said, if they had to go by their dictates there was no necessity for examinations. He said such examinations should have been taken by health department's central office.
