Six BNP activists hurt in AL attack

At least six BNP activists were injured as AL activists in Alaipur in the town attacked them while going to local BNP office to join a party programme. The injured were identified as Litit, 30, Khokon, 32, Mamun, 29, Anis, 28, Mizan, 30, and Malek, 35. Witnesses said, a BNP procession was heading towards the party office in the morning. When it reached Alipur area, some 15 to 20 AL activists all of a sudden attacked the processionists and injured six of them. District unit BNP brought out the procession to protest the latest fuel price hike, party sources said. Aminul Islam, secretary of BNP Natore district unit, alleged that the AL men attacked the BNP procession without any provocation. The injured received first aid from a local clinic, he added. Refuting the allegation, Sajedur Rahman Khan, president of Natore district unit AL, termed the BNP version baseless, adding that no AL men were involved in the attack. In Narail, at least five people were injured and 9 houses vandalised during a clash between the supporters of AL and BNP at Parmorlickpur village under Morlickpur union in Lohagara upazila on Saturday morning. The village is about 38 kilometers away from the district headquarters, reports our correspondent. On information, police from Lohagara PS rushed to the spot and arrested seven women from the spot. Sources said, there was a longstanding rivalry for establishing supremacy in the village between Morlickpur union BNP leader Jolil Sheikh and joint convenor of Morlickpur union AL Dulal Thakur. Police quoting locals said, earlier the supporters of the two men locked in a clash last month. As a sequel to it supporters of Dulal and Jolil with countrymade sharp weapon and iron rods attacked each other and severely injured five people and vadalised 9 houses on Saturday.
