Trawler with venison, deer heads and skins seized

Forest guards seized a trawler with 40 kgs of venison, three deer heads and two skins at Dimerchar under Sharankhola range yesterday morning. Sunderbans East Zone DFO Mihir Kumar Do said, acting on secret information, a team of forest guards raided the area and recovered the venison, deer skins and heads from a trawler at about 7:00 am. The poachers, however, managed to flee the scene, sensing their presence, he said. Later, the forest officials dumped the deer heads and the venison under the earth and took the skins to their office for processing. On Wednesday, coast guard members, in a drive, recovered 600 kgs of honey from Dhangmari area of Dakope upazila in Khulna under Sundarbans east zone, reports UNB. Coastguard Mongla west zone staff officer (Operation) Lt M Hassanuzzzaman told the news agency that on secret information they launched a drive in the area and recovered the huge quantity of honey kept in 10 containers. None was arrested in this connection as illegal honey collectors managed to flee the scene. Hasanuzzaman said an organised gang is engaged in collecting honey from Sundarbans illegally since long.
