Shop owners have called half-day hartal in the district today demanding arrest and punishment of the killers of Sajid Parvez Jadu, joint convener of Rangpur city unit Jubo League and also a businessman. A meeting of the shop owners' association district unit on Tuesday night took the decision to enforce hartal from 6:00am to 2:00pm. The leaders of the organisation called upon the people of the district to observe the hartal. Sajid Parvez Jadu was killed allegedly by Apel, Chand Miah, Dulal Mohanta and others on 16 October at the instruction of Abdul Majid, general secretary of Rangpur District Motor Shramik Union. Assistant Superintendent of Police Humayun Kabir of Rab Rangpur camp told newsmen on Tuesday that they raided a house adjoining Patgram bus terminal early in the morning and arrested Apel, Dulal and Phul Badsha. He said that the detective branch police earlier arrested Chandu Miah of Kamarpara in connection with the killing of Jadu. Chandu, during primary interrogation, disclosed the name of the killers of Jadu. Enmity developed between Jubo League leader Sajid Parvez Jadu and Majid over negotiation of a recently floated Tk 23 crore tender of Water Development Board (WDB), Rab sources said. General secretary of Rangpur Shop Owners Association Rezaul Islam Milon alleged that although a case had been lodged with Kotwali police station in connection with the murder, law enforcers are yet to arrest the main accused who hired the criminals for the killing.
