4 outlaws held in 2 districts

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested four outlaws in Pabna and Sirajganj districts yesterday and the day before. Rab-12 arrested three operatives of an outlawed party at Kashinathpur village in Santhia upazila early yesterday, reports our correspondent. The arrestees were identified as Ripon Mondal, 29, and Rabiul Islam, 25, two siblings and sons of Nur Mohammad and Harun-ur-Rashid, 23, son of late Ashraf Ali of Bishalongi village of the upazila. The arrestees are members of now defunct Naksal Bahini and accused in several cases including for murder and robbery, Rab said. On a tip-off that several members of the outlawed outfit were holding a secret meeting at the house of its regional leader Aynal Hossain, a team of Rab-12 raided the house at around 3:00am and arrested the three. Aynal, however, managed to flee the scene sensing the presence of the elite force. On the confessional statement of the arrestees, the Rab team recovered a foreign revolver, a shutter gun and 10 bullets by digging the earth of the house. Earlier, police in separate raids arrested three operatives of outlawed Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP) Janajuddha faction in Santhia upazila on Saturday night. The arrestees are Akkas Ali, 25, Abdus Salam, 30, of Sonakandi Beel and Md Nazmul Haque,25, of Koromja village of the upazila. Meanwhile Rapid Action Battalion personnel in Sirajganj arrested an outlawed party member and seized one firearm on Monday. Rab-5 commander Qamrul Islam said, they arrested Shafiqul Islam, an alleged extremist of an outlawed party along with a US made revolver from Khosalpur area in Tarash uapzila of the district, reports UNB.
