Kuet students besiege VC
Students of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (Kuet) laid a siege to the office of their vice chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Alamgir from 6pm till 12 midnight on Monday.
They were protesting extension of time by seven days for submitting a probe report in connection with alleged sexual harassment of two girl students.
The probe committee formed on October 18 by the VC with Associate Professor Dr Jolly Sultana as its head was supposed to submit its report on October 24.
But the head of the probe committee requested the vice chancellor to extend time by more one week.
The VC also agreed to extend time and a notice was issued in this regard at 5:30pm on Monday by the registrar of the university Md Abdur Rouf.
Students became agitated when they came across the notice. Later at 6pm they besieged the office of the vice chancellor protesting delay in submitting the probe report. The siege continued till 12 midnight.
The vice chancellor was confined to his office till 10pm, sources said.
Earlier, the students agitated on October 17-18 in protest against alleged sexual harassment of two girl students of mechanical engineering department of the university on October 8.
They launched the agitation as the vice chancellor could not take proper action against the stalkers, sources said.
