Five more BCL men held in Thakurgaon

Five more Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists were detained early yesterday in an overnight drive in different areas of the town in connection with the clash between police and a group of BCL men and vandalising of Awami League (AL) party office on Friday night.
The detainees are Sajib Datta,25, Shajahan Samrat,24, Md Badsha,23, Abdur Razzak Raju,24, and Bilium Pahan,24, of Gobindanagar village in Thakurgaon municipal area.
Police is examining the video footage and other arrestees' statements to ascertain the role of the five ill filing of this report at 4:30pm.
On the other hand, officer in-charge of Thakurgaon police station Gopal Chakraborty was closed to Thakurgaon Police Line through an office order issued on Sunday night for administrative reasons, superintendent of police (SP) Md Shah Alam said.
At least 87 BCL activists were sued by police on Saturday night in connection with the clash between police and a group of BCL men on Friday night.
Police detained 11BCL activists early Sunday in an overnight drive in different areas of the town in this connection.
After examining the video footage of the incident, police arrested four BCL activists and produced them before the chief judicial magistrate court Sunday afternoon. The court sent them to the jail.
The rest seven detainees were freed as they were found not involved with the incident.
Five people including four policemen were injured in a clash between police and BCL men on Friday night at Thakurgaon intersection.
The BCL activists also blocked the main road after vandalising district Awami League office while protesting a move to arrest one of their former leaders over extortion charges.
Police fired 25 teargas shells and 20 rubber bullets to disperse the BCL activists.
The extortion case was filed against five BCL leaders including former organising secretary of district unit BCL Mohammad Mamun on 15 October by a private farm.
BCL leaders claimed that the case was false and demanded its withdrawal.
