Silent procession in enclaves
Hundreds of people at Indian enclaves inside Panchagarh district yesterday brought out silent processions on the 7th day of their 10-day agitation demanding early implementation of the enclave exchange deal between Bangladesh and India.
India-Bangladesh Enclave Exchange Coordination Committee leader Sirajul Islam, also chairman of Shalbari enclave told this correspondent that people of all the Indian enclaves inside Bangladesh participated in the processions in their areas.
After the processions, local enclave leaders also addressed rallies.
The governments of India and Bangladesh should feel the pain of the enclave people and start the exchange procedure soon, they told the rallies.
Demanding a specific time frame for early implementation of the enclave exchange deal in line with Bangladesh-India land boundary agreement of 1974, they said the movement will continue until realisation of their demand.
In absence of basic citizens' rights, the enclave people live in awful conditions amid lack of adequate employment opportunity, infrastructure, educational institutions, electricity and medical facilities, they said.
Contacted, Md Golum Mostafa, general secretary of Bangladesh unit of India-Bangladesh enclave coordination body, told this correspondent over cell phone that the people of 51 Bangladesh enclaves inside India and 111 Indian enclaves inside Bangladesh observed the same programme to press home their demands.
