Rape of hill woman protested
Leaders of Hill Women's Federation (HWF) at a rally in the town yesterday demanded arrest and punishment of the culprits who raped a hill woman in Karkapara area under Panchhari upazila on Saturday.
The speakers at the rally said, torture on hill women had been rising day by day in the area as the local administration refrained from taking any legal action against the criminals.
Later, the party leaders, activists and several hundred hill women and schoolgirls brought out a protest procession from Shanirbar Bazar area and paraded different streets of the district town.
Wife of Pusparanjan Tripura was raped at her house in absence of her husband. Officer in-charge of Panchhari police station Alamgir Hossain said, the victim filed a case with the police station on Sunday.
