Diarrhoea attacks 20 in Jamalpur

At least 20 people have been affected with diarrhoeal diseases allegedly after drinking 'stinky' water supplied by Sarishabari municipality. The affected people are Ibrahim, 45, Abdus Salam Mondol, 50, Abul Kalam,17, Rawshan,7, Abul Kashem, 29, Jony, 28, Sanjib,22, Chameli,18, and Mitu, 5, of Shimla Bazar area; Abul Kalam, 40 , Rahmat Ullah, 45, Selim Reza, 50, of Kamrabad area; Chan Miah, 60, Abu Bakar, 28, Sakhawat, 20, Sheuly, 28, Al-Amin, 30, of Tariapara area; and Supti, 3, and Sohag, 10, of Maijhbari area of the municipality. They are undergoing treatment at Sarishabari upazila health complex and a private clinic. Local people alleged that the municipality has been supplying stinky water for long. “We repeatedly appealed to the municipal authority to supply safe drinking water, but to no effect,” they said. The mayor could not be contacted over cellphone despite repeated attempts.
