Three get life for killing 'friend'
A court here on Tuesday convicted three people and sentenced them to life imprisonment for killing a friend of them about eight years ago.
The court also fined the convicts Tk 50,000 each, in default, to suffer 1 year rigorous imprisonment (RI) more.
The convicts are: Raju, son of Masud Mia of Srirampur Lamapara village in Dakkhin Surma upazila, Jalal Uddin, son of Masaddar Ali alias Matar Mia of Ganja Purbopara village and Laloi Mia, son of Mastakin Ali of Golapganj upazila.
According to the prosecution, Jalal, Raju and Laloi had friendship with Juned Ahmed, 20, son of Jamsed Ali of Kaosthagram Beelepara village in Golapganj upazila.
On November 7, 2003, Juned took a mobile phone set from his nephew and left his house. He came back home three days later but without the mobile phone.
When his nephew asked him to return the mobile phone Juned said his friends Jalal, Raju and Loloi took the phone from him for using it for some days.
Insisted by the family members to bring the mobile phone back from his friends, Juned left his house on November 15 to bring the cell phone back but he did not return.
Later, relatives found the body of Juned at a paddy field of Fulbari Golagao Haor in Golapganj upazila on Nov 17.
Jamshed Ali, victim's father, filed a murder case and police arrested Laloi and Jalal in this connection.
