One gets life for killing wife for dowry
A Panchagarh court on Sunday sentenced a man to life term rigorous imprisonment for killing his wife for dowry in 2009.
Convict Md. Mostafa,40, is son of late Abdul Alim of Barmatal village under Tentulia upazila in Panchagarh.
District and Sessions Judge and also Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Court Md. Mahbub-ul-Islam handed down the verdict.
According to prosecution, Mostafa married Rebeka Begum,35, daughter of freedom fighter Mozibor Rahman of the same village several years ago.
After their marriage Mostafa asked his wife to bring Tk.50,000 as dowry and stated to torture her for it frequently. Failing to realise the money, Mostafa strangled Rebeka on 3 August in 2009.
