Workers protest shut down of textile mills
Workers of Sundarban Textile Mills staged demonstration in the town Sunday protesting the shut down of the main unit of the mill by the authorities.
Witnesses said hundreds of workers of the mill came out from the mill premises and brought out a procession to press home their five-point demand including reopening of the mill, stoppage of importing Indian cotton and introducing rationing system for the workers.
After the procession they held a protest rally in front of the office of Deputy Commissioner and submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister through the DC.
The speakers at the meeting said hundreds of workers of the mill have become jobless due to the shut down of the main unit of the mill since the first week of the current month.
Among others, mill unit Sramik League general secretary Abdul Khalek, Ex-CBA president Abdullah Sardar and workers' union leader Touhiduzzaman Tota spoke at the rally.
Mill authorities said they were compelled to close the mill as they were incurring heavy loss.
