15 volunteers from UK join welfare project in Sylhet

British Conservative Party and the Islamic Relief have jointly launched a programme styled 'Maya' in Sylhet region to promote education, sports, business and healthcare services. As part of the programme, 15 volunteers from the United Kingdom (UK) yesterday started renovating Haji Mohammad Shafique High School in Tultikor area under Sylhet City Corporation. The volunteers were seen decorating walls of the classrooms using distempers and cleaning up the school campus along with some local volunteers. In addition to renovation work, a modern computer lab is being set up at the school under the programme, an official of the Islamic Relief said. British lawmakers Nicky Morgan, Andrew Stephenson, Anne Main, Tobas Ellwood, and Syed Kamal, a member of the European Parliament, are now in Sylhet to visit Maya programme. British MP Ellwood said a large number of Conservative Party supporters, living in UK, are from Sylhet region. Beside, the UK and Sylhet have a long and deeply rooted relationship. That's why, the special project 'Maya' has been launched from Sylhet, he added. On successful implementation of the programme in Sylhet, it will be extended to other parts of the country, Ellwood further said. Baroness Sayeeda Warsi from the UK will be present at a function at Haji Shafique High School on September21, said the official of the Islamic Relief.
