<i>Students go on rampage as school under lock and key</i>

Students of Chapporhati High School in Sunderganj upazila on Saturday staged a demonstration demanding reopening of the school. The students came to the school on Thursday, the opening day after Ramadan and Eid holidays. But they had to go back as all classrooms were under lock and key. Seeing a notice hung by the headmaster, suspending classes for an indefinite period on Saturday, the students of the school became agitated. They entered the classrooms, breaking open the doors and damaged chairs and benches. Later, the students brought out a procession demanding reopening of the school. Before Eid vacation, the managing committee of the school brought corruption charge against Headmaster Abdul Ahad Bakul and put him under suspension. The committee asked the headmaster to hand over charges to assistant teacher Abdur Rashid, but he did not comply with the order. He said the committee's decision was unfair and his suspension was illegal The school managing committee could not resolve the issue as of yesterday as assistant teacher Abdur Rashid was not available in the area. Khorshed Alam, chairman of Chapporhati Union Parishad, said he is trying to resolve the issue in consultation with the managing committee. Contacted, Sunderganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shamsul Azam said necessary steps are being taken to reopen the school as soon as possible.
