Owner of Pabna clinic arrested
Police have arrested the owner of Seba Clinic in Chatmohar upazila following death of a pregnant woman at the clinic on Wednesday morning due to alleged wrong treatment by the doctors.
After filing of a case with Chatmohar Police Station at around 11:00am on Wednesday, police arrested clinic owner Md Amir Hossain Bablu in the evening. Two other accused in the case--Dr Doli Rani and anaesthetist Dr Bibhuti Sarkar--have been absconding since the incident.
Irene Khatun, 25, wife of Zakim Uddin of Dhulauri village in Chatmohar upazila of the district, was admitted to Seba Clinic at around 6:30 am on Wednesday. She died at the operation theatre during her caesarean at around 9:00am.
Family sources alleged that Irene died due to alleged wrong treatment by the doctors. Irene's brother Md Mizanur Rahman filed a case against clinic owner Md Amir Hossain Bablu and two doctors Doli Rani of Boraigram Health Complex in Natore and anaesthetist Dr Bibhuti Sarkar of Jonail union health center in Chatmohar upazila. Police said both were hired by the clinic owners.
District health department sealed the operation theater of the clinic on Wednesday night and formed a two- member inquiry committee yesterday.
Chatmohar Municipality authorities yesterday took a decision to cancel the trade licence of the clinic.
The officer-in-charge of Chatmohar Police Station quoted the victim's family as saying that she was not properly examined by the doctors before caesarean section. “We have recorded the case and trying to nab the doctors accused in the case.” the OC said.
At least five patients died at the clinic in a year. There is no permanent doctor at the clinic, said Md H Islam Hira, mayor of Chatmohar Municipality.
