Prisoner runs away from court area
An under trail prisoner ran away from the court area when he was being taken to Additional District and Sessions Judge court yesterday.
The prisoner was identified as Sirajul Islam, 35, son of Abdur Rahman of Torra village under Haripur upazila in Thakurgaon, an accused in an arms case.
Court sources said, at 11:30am, court police brought Sirajul to court. When they reached the veranda of the court the prisoner wanted to go to toilet to respond to nature's call.
Constable Rafiqul Islam took him to the toilet. When Sirajul came out constable Rafiqul entered the toilet asking Sirajul to wait a while. Taking this advantage, Sirajul ran away from the court.
Court sources said, people of Ranishankoil detained Sirajul with a pistol on 26 December 2010 at 9:30pm from Vandara village while attempting to mug and later handed over to police.
Sub-Inspector Syed Abu Taleb filed an arms case against Sirajul the next day.
After investigation, sub-inspector of Ranishankoil police station and also IO of the case Rabiul Islam submitted charge sheet against Sirajul on 13 January, 2011.
