Snatched rifle recovered, 3 arrested

Police on Monday arrested three of a gang of criminals who injured two cops and snatched a rifle from one of them at Kalichholi village in Kamalganj upazila of the district on Sunday afternoon. The snatched rifle was also recovered from the arrestees. Receiving information that a criminal named Mokbul Hussain and his cohorts are forcibly harvesting aus paddy from a land of a villager at Kalichholi village, a police team from Kamalganj Police Station led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Sudhin Chandra Das went to the village at around 3:00pm. Seeing the law enforcers at the village, Mokbul and his accomplices swooped on them, leaving two cops--Noor Uddin and Adras Ali--injured. The gang also took away a rifle from one of the injured. The other policemen, however, escaped attack and returned to the police station. The injured cops are undergoing treatment at Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital. Police raided the village early Monday and arrested Mokbul and his two accomplices. They (police) recovered the snatched rifle from the arrestees. Contacted, Nazim Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kamalganj Police Station, said they are looking for other accomplices of Mokbul. A police assault case was filed against Mokbul and his cohorts.
