2 convicted prisoners die in Pabna, Jessore

Two convicted prisoners of Pabna and Jessore jails died on Monday and Friday. A prisoner of Pabna Jail died at the Pabna Medical College Hospital on Monday morning. Identified as Mojnu Pramanik, 40, son of Sadek Pramanik of village Dharmagram in Pabna Sadar upazila, he was a drug addicted, jail sources said. Pabna Jail Superintendent Md. Enamul Haque said Mojnu was imprisoned in Pabna Jail on August 24 this year after he was convicted for 6 months in a drug case, reports our correspondent. He was under treatment at Pabna jail hospital and later shifted to Pabna Medical College Hospital on Monday afternoon as his condition turned critical. He died at the hospital at about 10:00am yesterday, the jail superintendent said. Quoting the doctors he said that the victim was suffering from mental and physical illness because of addiction. Meanwhile, a convicted prisoner of Jessore jail died at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) Friday night. The deceased was identified as Asad, 41, son of Aftab of North Bhobanipur village in Bheramara upazila of Kushtia district. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in a case in Jessore. Sources said when Asad fell seriously ill in Jessore jail on August 29 he was sent to Khulna jail for treatment. The jail authorities immediately admitted him to the KMCH where he died at 10:30pm on Friday.
