Arms recovered, top BCL leader of Kushtia held
Police and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in separate drives yesterday recovered four firearms and arrested a top local Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader.
The firearms included two 9mm pistols, one revolver, one LG and four bullets.
A team led by officer-in-charge (OC) of Kushtia Sadar PS Anwar Hossain raided a room of Kushtia Government College hostel at about 2:30am and arrested Saiful Islam, 36, vice-president of district unit BCL and his younger brother Sirajul Islam Dano, 24.
Police recovered a 9mm pistol from the room.
OC Anwar Hossain said the BCL leader and his brother was staying at the hostel room illegally.
College sources said Saiful is a student of the college, while his brother Dano is an outsider.
Police said Saiful and his brother are accused in several cases filed with Kushtia Sadar police station.
Besides, Rab-12 in Kushtia, led by Captain Mehedi raided the house of one Ruhul Amin at Charsadipur village in Daulatpur upazila in the district at about 9:45pm and arrested him.
Rab recovered a 9mm from his possession.
On his confessional statement, Rab raided the house of one Ashraf Ali at the same village at about 11:45pm and arrested him.
On information extracted from them, Rab raided Khademer Bazar area at about 1:30am and recovered one revolver, one LG, four bullets and two swords digging earth a place of the bazar.
