Express trains halted at Naldanga demanding stoppage

Local people stopped two express trains, putting up barricades on tracks at Naldanga station in Sadullpur upazila of the district on Sunday demanding a stoppage of the trains at the station. Assistant Station Master Abdul Momin said Dolanchampa Express, which runs between Santaher and Dinajpur, remained stranded at the station for three hours from 4:00pm while Rangpur Express for two hours from 9:00pm. Agitated people stopped the two trains, confining the signal man to a room and put up barricades on rail tracks, causing immense sufferings to the passengers, he said. Addressing a rally at the station, the speakers urged the railway authorities to meet their demand as soon as possible. Otherwise, they threatened to launch a tougher agitation programme. There is a stoppage of the two trains at Bamondanga Station in Sunderganj upazila, but they have no stoppage at Naldanga station, said the speakers. On the opening day of Rangpur intercity train on August 22, Communications Minister Syed Abul Hossain promised to consider stoppage of the trains at Naldanga station, but he has not yet taken any step in this regard, they said.
