UP member murdered
A union parishad (UP) member was killed by unknown assailants in Mollahat upazila of Bagerhat district on Monday night.
Police recovered the body of Haji Sheikh Sohrab Hossain, 44, from the playground of Brahmandanga Registered Primary School yesterday morning. He was elected member of Kodalia union parishad in the upazila on March 31 this year.
Delwar Hossain, chairman of the union parishad, said Sohrab went to local Chalthuri Bazar on Monday night to attend a function marking the opening of a shop at the bazar.
The reason behind the murder could not be known as of filing of this report at 5:00pm yesterday. Contacted, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mollahat Police Station Iqbal Hossain said they are trying to unearth the clue to the murder.
Delwar's motorbike was found half a kilometre off the spot, the OC added.
The body of the UP member was sent to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. His brother Shiekh Abed Ali filed a murder case with Mollahat Police Station.
