Criminals set AL office on fire

Criminals allegedly torched the party office of ruling Awami League (AL) in Matborerchar Shikdarkandi area under Shibchar upazila early yesterday. Protesting the incident, supporters and activists of the party barricaded the Dhaka-Khulna highway for two hours in the morning. Police quoting locals said, some unknown criminals set on fire Matborerchar union Awami League office in the early hours of yesterday. Seeing the blaze locals informed the police. Local Awami League leader Fazlul Haq Munshi alleged that Abdur Razzak Molla, a BNP leader and also a chairman candidate in the upcoming union parishad election set the party office on fire due to previous enmity. However, Babu Molla, son of Abdur Razzak Molla said that the AL men themselves set fire to their party office in a bid to blame the BNP men. Sub-inspector and also the investigation officer (IO), Mizanur Rahman said, they have already visited the spot. "We will take necessary steps after investigating the matter", added the IO. No case was lodged till filing of this report yesterday evening.
