PCP office gutted in Khagrachhari

The office of Pahari Chhatra Parishad (PCP), backed by United Peoples' Democratic Front (UPDF) and eight shops were gutted in College Gate area under Panchhari upazila on Saturday night. Police and locals said, the incident occurred around midnight Saturday. Property worth Tk 20 lakh was damaged but the authorities could not ascertain any reason behind the fire. However, president of district PCP unit Aprushi Marma in a press release alleged that their opponents were intentionally doing such incidents in a bid to stop their organisational activities and create misunderstanding among the indigenous people. He condemned the incident and demanded punishment to the culprits. Officer-in-charge of Panchhari police station Md Alamgir Hossan said, they are investigating the incident. On May 16, the office of the United Peoples' Democratic Front (UPDF) and three shops were gutted at Mastarpara under Dighinala upazila in the district damaging property worth Tk 3 lakh. In Nilphamari, at least 10 houses were gutted in a devastating fire at Kukhapara village in Sadar upazila Saturday noon. Local people said the fire originated from the kitchen of Harmuz Ali of the village and soon engulfed the adjoining houses, reports UNB. On information, fire fighters from the district headquarters rushed to the spot and doused the fire after an hour of frantic efforts with the help of local people. The affected house owners claimed that cash and valuables worth Tk 3 lakh were gutted in the blaze.
