A 13-year-old girl was saved from under-age marriage in face of protest by villagers on Friday. Agitated people of Jadabpur submitted an allegation to Shyamnagar upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) requesting him to intervene and save Mousumi Khatun, daughter of Md Abdul Hannan from being married to a 25-year-old youth of the same upazila.. UNO Sabbir Ahmed responded to the allegation and sent a police team to stop the early marriage which consequently saved Mausumi. Mousumi Khatun, a class eight student of Jadabpur Jobeda-Sohrab Model Academy did not agree to the proposal when her parents arranged her marriage with Aminur Rahman Sardar, 25 son of Hossain Ali Sardar of Khubdipur village in Shyamnagar upazila. The marriage was fixed on Friday and her parents had bought a motorbike and freeze for the bridegroom. She started crying as she did not dare to protest. Being informed, villagers came to her rescue and submitted an allegation to the UNO seeking his help to stop the illegal marriage.
