Three Shibir activists held in Rajshahi city
Police arrested three activists of Chhatra Shibir on various charges in the city yesterday.
Akbar Ali, officer-in-charge of Motihar police station said, Rashedul Islam, 28, and Hafizur Rahman, 25, were arrested from Budhpara at noon in connection with a case filed on March 13, 2009.
Former BCL president of RU unit Ibrahim Hossain Moon filed a case against some 500 unnamed Shibir men after the pro-Jamaat student front attacked a BCL gathering, leaving nearly 20 BCL activists seriously wounded on March 11 that year.
Following the case, police raided 11 male dormitories and detained about 68 Shibir men on March 13, 2009.
After the raid, Shibir cadres locked entrances of all the dormitories and attacked BCL men taking control of the halls.
To capture the halls again, BCL men assisted by police clashed fiercely with Shibir cadres and held chase and counter chase leaving the then Shibir general secretary Sharifuzzaman Nomani killed and some 30 others injured.
Meanwhile, the other arrestee -- Mofazzel Hossain, 27,-- was held following his suspicious movement at Budhpara early yesterday.
