Former top power official sued on corruption charge
Deputy director of Khulna office of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Md Nazrul Islam filed a case on Friday night with Sonadanga Model PS in the city accusing former Managing Director (MD) Md Abu Ishaque of West Zone Power Distribution Company Limited (WZPDCL) of amassing huge wealth beyond known sources of his income.
The complainant stated in his case that while in service in Khulna head office as MD of WZPDCL, Md Ishaque purchased two apartments on February 14 in 2008 from Rupayan Housing estate of Dhaka for Tk 56 lakh.
But he, in his wealth statement, mentioned Tk 15 lakh and 50,000 against price for purchasing these two apartments in his own name and thus concealed information about remaining Tk 40 lakh and 50,000.
The case has been recorded under sections 26/2 and 27/2 of the ACC, the complainant said.
Accused Abu Ishaque retired from his service last year.
