Tragic Death of Aklima
GRP finally records rape, murder case
Two weeks after abduction and brutal murder of a teenage girl, government railway police (GRP) in Parbatipur upazila of Dinajpur district on Friday recorded a rape and murder case.
The victim, Aklima Begum, 16, daughter of Mozibar Rahman and Monowara Begum of Dargapara village of Parbatipur upazila, went missing on May 15 and her body, with tied hands and legs and severed into three pieces due to being run over by a train, was found on a railway track the next day.
Aklima's cousin Inamul Haque filed the case for rape and murder of the girl accusing Siddiqur Rahman, 19, Sumon, 20, and Sohel, 22 -- all from Dargapara village.
The accused have went into hiding, police said.
"I sent Aklima to purchase something from a nearby grocery on May 15 evening. As she did not return after sometime, I went to the shop and heard from shop owner Rahima Begum that Aklima had returned with groceries from there," Monowara Begum said.
Since then, Aklima remained untraced despite search at different places, said family members. The next day, people of Phirojpur village in Parbatipur upazila informed Aklima's family that a dead body was found on a railway track and it was later identified to be Aklima's.
Parbatipur Railway police sent Aklima's body to Dinajpur Medical College and Hospital for autopsy. A general diary was also filed with the GRP station.
The autopsy report, delivered several days later, said Aklima was raped and tortured to death.
Aklima's parents said they earlier went to Parbatipur GRP station several times to file a murder case but police made them return without recording it.
Asked why it took so long to record a murder case, Md Emdadul Haque, officer in charge of Parbatipur GPR station, said "As it was not clear whether the girl was murdered, we waited for the post mortem report."
