Wild elephant found dead
A wild elephant was found dead at Batirchhara under Fashiakhali forest area of Chakoria upazila of the district.
Parimal Das and Ratan Paul who went to collect fuel wood in the jungle yesterday morning saw the carcass of the elephant.
They said there were injury marks on the body of the elephant, adding organised smugglers might have killed the elephant to collect its tusks. A tusk sells at about Tk one lakh.
Earlier on May 15, a three-year-old young elephant was found dead at Ringvong forest under the same area.
Fashiakhali forest beat officer Faruq Ahmed said, he did not have any information regarding death of any wild elephant. He however, said the forest officials were looking into the matter.
