2 housewives murdered

Two housewives were murdered early yesterday allegedly by their husbands in Gaibandha and Laxmipur districts. A woman was killed allegedly by her husband for dowry at Char Ramdaskura village in Sundarganj upazila of Gaibandha early yesterday. The victim was identified as Shefali Begum, wife of Saju Miah of the village, reports UNB. Police said Saju married Shefali of the village seven months ago. Her parents promised to give Saju Tk 80,000 as dowry. Failing to get the money from her parents after the marriage, Saju started to torture Shefali. On the fateful night, he picked up a quarrel with Shefali over the issue and at one stage killed her with the help of his family members. Locals informed the police early in the morning who recovered the body and sent it to hospital morgue for autopsy. Police also arrested Saju. In Laxmipur, a housewife was killed allegedly by her husband at Devnagar village in Ramganj upazila early yesterday. The deceased was identified as Minu Akhtar, 35, wife of Jahangir Alam of the village. Locals said Jahangir returned home from abroad recently and married another woman as Minu was suffering from a paralytic illness since she gave birth to her third child. They said Jahangir picked up a quarrel with Minu over a trifling matter late at night and at one stage tortured her to death. Later, Jahangir hanged the body from the ceiling of his house to prove that she had committed suicide.
