Candidate attacked

A union parishad (UP) chairman candidate was hacked by the supporters of his rival candidate in Madaripur Sadar upazila on Tuesday night. The ruling party backed candidate, Ezajur Rahman Akand, is vying for the post of chairman of Kalikapur Union Parishad. He is now undergoing treatment at Faridpur Medical College and Hospital (FMCH). Police quoted locals as saying that the supporters of chairman candidate Abu Taleb Bepari locked in an altercation with Akand while he was campaigning at Dudthkhali village at around 10:00pm. At one stage, Taleb's men hacked Akand with sharp weapons, leaving him seriously injured. He was admitted to Madaripur Sadar Hospital and then shifted to Faridpur Medical College and Hospital.
