A memorandum containing signatures of around 600 people was submitted to the home ministry through the deputy commissioner of Dinajpur yesterday demanding immediate arrest of the killers of Limon Mishra. The signatories include teachers, students, businessmen, NGO representatives, cultural and political activists. Sachetan Nagorik Committee, a platform of Dinajpur townspeople, organised the signature campaign in front of the local press club in the morning. Later, the committee went to the deputy commissioner's office in a procession and submitted the memorandum. Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mir Nazrul Islam received the memo as the deputy commissioner was out of the office. Limon's father Phani Mishra and wife Indu Banerjee were also present. The signatories to the memorandum urged the home ministry to take immediate steps to nab the killers who are moving freely and putting pressure on Limon's family to withdraw the case. A gang of stalkers stabbed Limon, 28, in front of Lily Square in the town at around 7:00pm on May 4 as he protested teasing of his wife Indu, a third year management student of Dinajpur Government College, on her way to the college earlier on the day. Limon was rushed to Dinajpur Medical College and Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at around 10:30pm. His father Phani Mishra filed a case with Dinajpur Police Station against eight stalkers the same night. The accused are Rubel Rahman, 26, Ajoy Shil, 24, Tanmoy Goswami, 23, Bakul, 26, Rajan, 24, Sumon Prosad, 22, Summon Sarker, 23, and Subir, 22. Immediately after filing of the case, police arrested Sumon Sarker, one of the accused, while the rest are still at large. Sachetan Nagorik Committee alleged that the killers are moving freely and joining different programmes in the town under the nose of the law enforcers.
