Woman killed as house collapses during storm
An old woman was killed as an abandoned old building collapsed on her during storm at Saidpur town yesterday morning. Two of her sons were also injured in the incident.
The victim was identified as Rawshan Ara Begam,50, wife of late Jamil Ahmed of Bangalipur area under Saidpur municipality.
Local sources said the old building, once used as jute godown in Bangalipur area of Saidpur municipality, was declared abandoned long ago by public works department.
Inspite of that, the old woman was living there with her two sons as she had no other shelter to go.
At about 7:30 am yesterday, a nor' wester accompanied with heavy shower lashed the area damaging at least 20 thatched houses and uprooting a number of trees.
At a stage of storm, the abandoned building collapsed on them causing instant death of the woman. Her two children Saju,11, and Raju,10, were admitted to local hospital.
