Transport strike called off
Indefinite transport strike on 18 routes of south-western region from Khulna has been called off.
The decision to call off the strike was taken at a meeting held yesterday evening at the conference room of Khulna circuit house with city mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque in the chair.
Leaders of bus owners' association, transport workers' union, deputy commissioner of Khulna and officials of different law enforcing agencies were present at the meeting.
"We have called off strike as the city mayor and officials of civil administration and law enforcing agencies have assured us of withdrawing all human haulers like Nasimon and Karimon and battery-driven vehicles from all routes of south-western region within next 15 days," said Nurul Huq Lipon, president of Khulna district transport owners' association.
A transport strike on all 18 routes of south-western region covering Khulna, Bagerhat, Satkhira, Pirojpur and Gopalganj districts was enforced on Sunday to press home 4-point demand.
