Transport strike threatened

Our Correspondent, Gaibandha
Leaders of Gaibandha transport owners association and bus-truck workers union at a press conference on Saturday warned that they would go for an indefinite transport strike from May 26, if their four-point demand is not fulfilled by May 25. Held at Gaibandha press club they demanded election of Gaibandha motor owners association without further delay. "Otherwise, we will go for greater agitation,” they warned. A paper read out at the press conference said the tenure of existing committee of the association expired on April 8, 2011. But there is no initiative for holding next bi-annual election, although as per by-laws election must be held by next month.
