Internal Feud Surfaces Again
BNP dissidents in Khulna city float new platform
Internal feud in Khulna city BNP surfaced anew as dissidents have floated a new platform named Bangladesh Nationalist Party United Movement (BNPUM).
A seven-member convening committee with Nuruzzaman Khokon as convenor and Kazi Mohammod Rashed as member-secretary was formed at a closed-door meeting at the auditorium of Khulna District Bar Association on Saturday afternoon, said a press release issued at 8:30pm.
A full-fledged committee will be formed in the next three days with dedicated leaders of Chhatra Dal, Jubo Dal, Swechchasebok Dal, Sramik Dal and Mahila Dal, said the press release signed by Kazi Mohammod Rashed.
A meeting of BNPUM was held at the same venue with its convenor Nuruzzaman Khokon in the chair. Over 100 leaders of local BNP and its associate bodies attended the meeting. Former president of Khulna Chamber of Commerce and Industry Sheikh Zahidul Islam was also present.
The newly formed platform chalked out a separate programme to observe the death anniversary of Ziaur Rahman on May 30.
“We have been compelled to form the platform being deprived of getting our due respect in city BNP committee,” Nuruzzaman Khokan said.
A full-fledged committee of the newly formed platform will be formed, comprising efficient but deprived and neglected leaders of Khulna city BNP and its associate organisations, he said.
President of Khulna City BNP and lawmaker of Khulna-2 constituency Nazrul Islam Manju said only a section of misguided and dishonest men are trying to do some damage to the reputation of the party, forming a new platform.
“Most of them are agents of the ruling party Let them go out to free Khulna BNP from political criminals. Any sort of programme detrimental to image of the party will be strongly resisted,” Manju said.
Sources in the newly formed platform said former lawmaker of Khulna-2 constituency Ali Asgar Loby is backing the dissidents from behind the screen. When contacted, Loby denied the allegation.
