A human chain was formed at Nolchapra bazaar under Kalmakanda upazila yesterday morning demanding immediate arrest of the killers of school student Mahfuzur Rahman Himel. Himel,14, son of Mahbubur Rahman, of Kuarpur village and a student of class eight at Nolchapra High School in the upazila was abducted by criminals on 7 May evening from in front of his house . The human chain was organised by Nolchapra High School and over a thousand students and teachers from different high schools took part in it. The protesters at the human chain alleged that Himel was killed due to dilly-dally by Kalmakanda police as they did not take any effective step to rescue Himel despite filing of a GD on the same night. They also said that the killers are still moving freely under the nose of police. Himel's decomposed body was found on 14 May morning at a paddy field near his house. Himel's father Mahbubur Rahman filed a murder case accusing five people. The accused are Abdul Hamid and his son Rony, Shamim, son of Ali Newaz of Kuarpur village, Abdul Wahab of Gudmondol village and Ranu Mia, son of late Abdur Rezzak of Chilahala village under Kalmakanda upazila. Contacted, Khan Humayun Kabir, OC of Kalmakanda PS told this correspondent that police failed to rescue Himel because of 'wrong' information by Himel's father. He said police also could not arrest the accused as they managed to flee the area. Police superintendent of Netrakona Joydeb Bhadra said, investigation is going on and police are trying their best to arrest the culprits.
