3 held for acid attack on Anjana in C'nawabganj
The victim is still being treated at hospital
Police arrested three people including a woman from Pialimari village under Shibganj upazila early yesterday in connection with throwing acid on Anjana Karmakar.
The arrestees are identified as, Dilip Karmakar, 47, his wife Purnima Karmakar,40, and Dilip's brother Prosonno Karmakar,45, of the village.
Police said, on information, a team raided Dilip's house and arrested the three at around 3:45 am.
Earlier, Anjana Karmakar,35, daughter of Bibbhutibhusan Karmakar of Mushribhuja village under Bholahat upazila in district sustained serious burn injuries as criminals threw acid on her at Alinagar in the town Sunday morning.
Police said, Anjana came to Chapainawabganj from Bholahat by a passenger bus. She got down from the bus at Alinagar rail crossing point in front of Alinagar High School at 9:00am.
When she was going to District and Sessions Judge Court to attend a case, a gang waylaid her and threw acid on her face. Local people rushed her to Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital.
She is now under treatment at the hospital with serious burn injuries.
Police said, Anjana had filed a case with District and Sessions Judge Court against Prem Kumar Karmakar, son of Panu Karmakar of Chouka village, Ujjal Karmakar, son of Bhanjan Karmakar of Binodpur village and Dilip Karmakar, son of Udasan Karmakar of Jagannathpur-Pialimari of Shibganj upazila in the district in 2010 under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
The three accused allegedly abducted Anjana and violated her at Shibganj in 2010.
Anjana's brother Laxman Karmakar alleged that, being infuriated, Prem Kumar, Ujjal and Dilip threw acid on Anjana.
Anjana filed a case aganst Dilip and six others with Chapainawabganj Sadar police station on Sunday.
