A private group starts monthly honorarium
A private organisation has introduced monthly honorarium for poor freedom fighters of Melandah upazila of the district.
Tuba Group, Dhaka, launched the scheme at a function on the premises of Hazrabari College premises in the upazila on Saturday.
Initially, the company will give Tk 1,000 in monthly honorarium to each of 50 poor freedom fighters of the upazila. The FFs will draw the money from their respective bank accounts.
Shafiqul Islam Khoka, commander of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Jamalpur district unit command, addressed the function as chief guest with Tuba Group Managing Director (MD) Delwar Hossain in the chair.
In his speech, Khoka said the government is giving allowance to the freedom fighters and also trying to rehabilitate them. But these steps are not enough for ultra-poor freedom fighters who are struggling for their survival, he added.
He urged the business farms and social welfare organisations to provide financial help for the ultra poor freedom fighters.
Paying due respect to the freedom fighters, Tuba Group MD Delwar Hossain said the well off people should come forward to help rehabilitate the poor freedom fighters.
Abdul Mannan, commander of Melandah upazila muktijoddha unit command, and principal of Hazrabari College Abdul Aziz also addressed the function.
At the function, Tuba Group gave three computers to “Amra Muktijoddhar Santan” Melandi upazila unit for its computer learning centre.
