A man was stabbed as he tried to resist an alleged stalker from assaulting his daughter on her way to school at Wari village under Belabo upazila on Saturday. Injured Saiful Islam, a resident the same area, is now fighting for life at hospital. Witnesses said, alleged stalker Ismail, 22, waylaid Halima Akter Sumi, a class eight student of Boteshwar Ideal High School. He dragged her to a nearby field and started beating mercilessly, as she declined to accept his indecent proposal. Hearing her screams, Saiful, who was at a nearby place, rushed to the spot to save his daughter. At this, angry Ismail stabbed him with a sharp weapon, leaving him seriously injured. Hearing the hue and cry, locals came to their rescue and sent Saiful to Belabo health complex. Sensing the presence of people, Ismail managed to flee the scene. Later, Saiful was shifted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital as his condition deteriorated. As the news spreads in the area, the agitated students of Boteshwar Ideal High School set fire to Ismail's grocery shop and ransacked his poultry farm. Locals said, Ismail was punished at a village arbitration only a few days ago for teasing young girls on way to their schools. Md Golam Faruk, headmaster of the school said, Ismail was warned several times earlier for teasing schoolgirls. Bilkis Begum, wife of Saiful, filed a case with Belabo police station accusing five people in this connection.
