Storms lashed three districts yesterday and the day before killing at least two people and injuring scores of others. A storm in Brahmanbaria on Saturday afternoon killed one person and injured at least 10 others and damaged over 100 thatched houses at three places under Kasba upazila, reports our correspondent. According to polices record, victim Kazal Begum, 35, was a domestic help at Kasba town. District administration sources, police and eyewitness said, a nor'wester swept over Bayek union, Nuapara village and Kasba upazila headquarters for half an hour at 3:00pm. Kazal Begum died on the spot as a Krishnachura tree fell on her and ten others were hurt in different areas. During the storm, at least 100 thatched houses were damaged and hundreds of trees were broken and uprooted. Several electric poles were damaged leaving the electricity snapped in many areas. In Dinajpur, lightning killed one person in Birampur upazila during storm yesterday. The deceased was identified as Dinabanddhu Roy, 60, son of late Pranobanddhu Roy of village Uttar Daudpur under Birampur upazila, reports our correspondent. Family sources said Dinabaneddhu was killed as he came out of his house amid storm with severe lightning early morning. He was killed on the spot as lightning struck him. In Gaibandha, more than 500 thatched houses were razed to the ground and 30 people were injured in a nor'wester that swept over five villages in Sadullapur upazila early yesterday, reports our correspondent. According to local people, the storm hit dozens of villages and lasted for about 30 minutes. The storm also caused extensive damage to standing boro and other crops on vast tracts of land and uprooted a large number of trees. Power supply in the upazila remained disrupted as many electric poles were damaged by the storm. The most affected areas are Kazdaha, Nandina, Shibpur, Nayani in Sader upazila and Taluk Haridas, Khorda Kamorpur, Taluk Haridas, Fulbari, Mujaheedpur, Baro Gopalpur and Chalk Gobindapur in Sadullapur upazila.
