'Killers' move freely under the nose of law enforcers

The accused in Limon Mishra murder case are moving freely under the nose of the law enforcers and putting pressure on the victim's family to withdraw the case. A gang of stalkers stabbed Limon Mishra, 28, of Baragurgola area in Dinajpur town in front of Lily Square at around 7:00pm on May 4 as he protested teasing of his wife Indu Banerjee, a third year management student of Dinajpur Government College, on her way to the college earlier on the day. Limon was rushed to Dinajpur Medical College and Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at around 10:30pm. Limon's father Phani Mishra filed a case with Dinajpur Police Station against eight people the same night and one of the accused named Sumon Sarker, 23, son of Montu Sarker of Rajbari area in the town, was arrested in the early hours of May 5. Other accused in the case are Rubel Rahman, 26, Ajoy Shil, 24, Tanmoy Goswami, 23, Bakul, 26, Rajan, 24, Sumon Prosad, 22, and Subir, 21. Victim's family and locals alleged that the accused are still at large and joining different programmes in the town. Of them, Rubel Rahman, joint convener of the newly formed district unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), was seen in a procession in the town on Wednesday last, they said. Lawmaker Iqbalur Rahim, Deputy Commissioner Md Jamal Uddin Ahmed Police Superintendent Md Mostafizur Rahman and senior ruling party political leaders visited Limon's house on May 5 and expressed their sympathy for the bereaved family. Although they assured the victim's family of bringing the culprits to book, police are yet to take any steps to nab them, locals further alleged. Contacted, Officer-in-Charge of Dinajpur Kotwali Police Station Hasan Shamim Iqbal said drive is on to arrest the criminals.
