University student hacked to death in Manikganj

A university student was hacked to death at Ramonpur village in Sadar upazila on Saturday night. Victim Imran Hossain was a student of LLB of Savar Gono Biswabidyaloy and son of Habibur Rahman, a school teacher of the village. Police and family sources said, Imran was called out of his house by his friend Selim, 28, son of Noab Ali of the village at around 9:00 pm. Later Imran was found in a critically injured condition beside a bridge, only 100 yards away from his house, at around 9:30 pm. He was rushed to Manikganj Sadar Hospital where the on-duty doctor referred him to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital. But Imran died on the way to Dhaka at around 11:30 pm, they said. The body was taken to Manikganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. Victim's father Habibur Rahman yesterday filed a murder case with Manikganj police station accusing Babu, Selim and some unidentified others. In the case, he stated that a youth complained to him about six months ago that Imran had the habit of smoking. When Imran came to know this he went to the house of Babu and engaged in a quarrel with him. After the incident, Babu threatened to kill Imran, the statement said adding that Babu planned and hired Selim and others to kill his son. Sub-inspector of Manikganj Sadar police station, also investigating officer (IO) of the case Kamal Hossain said the criminals hit on Imran's head with sharp weapons making him unconscious within seconds. Previous enmity might be the reason behind the killing, the IO said. Police said, they arrested Selim for quizzing and trying to nab Babu.
