JCD leader hacked to death
A Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leader has been hacked to death in Bera upazila of the district.
Police yesterday recovered his decomposed body from Kazirhat bailey bridge point of the Jamuna River.
The deceased was identified as Shafikul Islam Shafique, 32, son of Hossain Biswas, of Nandanpur village in Santhia upazila. He was organising secretary of Santhia upazila unit Jatiyatabadi Chatra Dal (JCD), sources said.
“Shafique was the organising secretary of JCD Santhia upazila unit . He was recently expelled temporarily from the party.” Hasanur Rahman Rony, organising secretary of the district unit JCD said. We heard that Shafique went missing a few days ago, Rony added.
Contacted, police said no complaint was filed with Santhia police station in connection with his missing.
“We have heard the news of his missing but we did not get any complaint. The victim's family did not inform the police.” SM Bazlur Rashid, officer-in-charge of Santhia police station said.
Although Shafique is an accused in four cases but he is not a listed criminal as per police record, the OC added.
Officer-in-charge of Bera police station Sheikh Jillur Rahman said, locals found his body in the river Jamuna yesterday afternoon and informed police. Relatives of Shafique identified his body, the OC added.
“The body was found in decomposed state. We think the criminals chopped him to death and dumped the body in the river 3 to 4 days ago,” he added.
Additional superintendent of police (ASP) Md Mosharaf Hossain Bhuiyan said that the reason behind the murder is not yet clear.
“We are investigating the case. Before investigation we can't say anything for sure,” the ASP said.
Meanwhile, the JCD leaders yesterday demanded proper investigation into the murder and punishment to the killers.
