Wife of a police sergeant filed a case with the Women and Children Repression Prevention Court here on Thursday, bringing torture allegation against her husband. The judge took the case into cognisance and asked Sylhet Kotwali police to investigate the matter and report. In the case statement, Lipi Sultana Setu alleged that her husband Molla Taslim Hossain threatened to divorce her as she protested his illicit relationship with a woman months ago. “Since then, I along with my two sons have been living in Dhaka,” she said. Lipi further said as she filed a case against her husband with a court in the capital, he (Taslim) called her to Sylhet to settle the matter. “Accordingly, I came to Sylhet, but Taslim on April 13 physically tortured me,” she alleged, adding that Kotwali police refused to accept her complaint. Denying the allegation, Sergeant Taslim said he had divorced Lipi a year ago. She concealed the fact while filing the case, Taslim added.
