Handcuffed drug peddlers snatched
Family members, accomplices attack, injure cops in Gournadi
Two handcuffed drug peddlers were snatched from law enforcers at Kataskhal village in Gournadi upazila on Wednesday noon.
Three law enforcers, who arrested the criminals, were also injured in an attack by their accomplices.
Shahnewaz, Additional Director, Directorate of Narcotics Control (DNC) Barisal office, said a six-member plainclothes unarmed team of DNC in disguise of buyers contacted two brothers -- Abul Bashar Akon and Zafar Akon -- notorious drug peddlers of Gournadi area.
Later, the two drug peddlers were arrested and handcuffed at their house at Kataskhal about 1:30pm when they were handing over a packet of heroin to the team, said Inspector Sirajul Islam, leader of the DNC team.
All of a sudden, the male and female family members of the arrestees attacked the DNC team with lethal weapons.
They snatched Bashar and Zafar from the motorbike of the law enforces and fled from the scene after beating up a few members of the team.
DNC team member Mizanur Rahman, motorbike driver Shahidul Islam, DNC source Shihabuddin were severely injured in the attack.
Three cops also sustained minor injuries.
Later, the police and DNC team jointly raided the area for four hours and arrested Jewel Akon and Zahid Hossain, two associates of Bashar-Zafar gang.
The law enforcers also recovered four pieces of yaba tablet, 21 pathedine injection, 12 bottles of phensidyl and 60 empty bottles of phensidyl from around the house of Bashar-Zafar gang.
Inspector Sirajul Islam filed three cases for assaulting law enforcers, snatching handcuffed accused and another for drug peddling.
In Comilla, four drug peddlers were arrested and two policemen injured in a clash between police and drug peddlers at Kodalia village of Bakshimul union in Burichang upazila Tuesday night, reports UNB.
Golam Shah Newaz, OC of Burichang PS said, the clash ensued when they had arrested drug peddler Ramiz Uddin. He was wanted in a case.
After the arrest, Ramiz's family members and drug peddlers of the area attacked a CNG auto rickshaw carrying police. The police informed the PS of the attack, and SI Nasir Uddin was sent to the spot with force. Later, SI Nasir and a policeman were injured in the clash.
The law enforcers again raided the area and arrested three drug peddlers. They were sent to jail on Wednesday.
Police also filed a case against 22 people and unnamed 20-25 others.
